Video Metadata Removal FAQs
Answers to common questions about video file privacy, GPS tagging, and container metadata.
What is video metadata?
Video metadata is descriptive information embedded within a video file. It typically includes the recording date and time, the camera or phone model, GPS coordinates of where the video was filmed, software editing details, and video configuration parameters like codec, resolution, and bit rate.
Which video formats are supported?
The tool supports standard video containers including MP4, MOV, AVI, and MKV. It works by identifying and clearing the metadata-holding containers (such as the udta, meta, or uuid atoms in MP4/MOV files).
Is my video file content altered or compressed?
No. Unlike traditional video converters, this tool does not re-encode, compress, or alter the visual and audio streams of your video. The video quality remains exactly 100% original. The metadata atoms are targeted and cleared in-place in the binary container structure.
Are my video files uploaded to a server?
Never. Like all tools on NO Exif, video scrubbing runs entirely locally inside your browser using the File API. Your video files are processed on your computer and never leave your machine, ensuring complete privacy.
Can I clear metadata from multiple videos at once?
Yes! You can select or drag and drop multiple videos together, preview details, strip all metadata in one batch click, and download them cleanly (individually or as a ZIP file).
Does removing metadata affect video quality or file size?
No. The tool strips only the metadata atoms from the container — it never re-encodes the video or audio streams. The visual quality, resolution, frame rate, and audio remain bit-for-bit identical. File size may decrease very slightly since the metadata payload itself is removed, but the difference is negligible.
Can GPS coordinates be hidden inside a video without me knowing?
Yes. Smartphones automatically embed GPS coordinates into video files by default when location services are enabled for the camera app. This means every video you record could carry your exact recording location — including your home address if filmed indoors — without any visible indication in the file itself.
Does this tool work on videos recorded with a drone or action camera?
Yes. Drones and action cameras such as GoPro or DJI devices embed extensive metadata including GPS flight coordinates, altitude, camera gimbal angle, and device serial numbers. These are stored in standard MP4/MOV metadata atoms and will be fully cleared by the tool.
